Today’s is an excerpt from the NaNoWriMo novel which is eating all my time this month. Audrey finds herself in a version of reality where the Troubles never went away in 1983 and by the end of the decade the whole world knew all about them. The Guard fight openly for Troubled rights and are regarded as a terrorist organisation, while Duke is a state sponsored superhero who dispatches the most damaging Troubles.
AU Jordan. Also, just a little touch (heh) of Jordan/Audrey.
"What the hell?” The woman stalking towards her over the grass, staring after the path of Duke’s car, was unfortunately someone Audrey recognised all too well. “Was that Duke Crocker?” Jordan’s jaw hung open. Then she recovered enough to level the gun in her hands at Audrey.
"Wait!" Audrey hurriedly raised her arms, trying to remind herself that this Jordan had never met her before, and it might actually have been a worse situation if their worlds were reversed. The hostility had to be down to Duke. "I’m a friend of Nathan’s. Is he here? Duke was just giving me a ride. I swear."
“‘Duke was just giving you a ride’?” Jordan repeated in a sceptical drawl. She shifted her grip on the gun. “Okay, let’s see a number.”
"I don’t have a number." She lifted up her hair to flash the back of her neck. "You could say a Trouble brought me to town, though. Hey, can we go see Nathan first, then try to explain it, because I’m pretty sure he can sort all of this out?”
